In 2001 I attended a course about strategic alliances & partnerships and it was an epiphany for me: “there is a name for how I’ve been working all the time!” From that moment on I focused my work on deliberately applying what I learned into creating partnerships, and with success.
I was tasked by my manager to develop one of the divisions of a large multinational into a sizeable client. By creating win-win-win value propositions combining their products with our products in a way that benefitted the end-user and simultaneously creating joint approaches in our global sales teams I was able to multiply our revenue as a result of working with this client by 78 times in 3 years. The next 6 years, as an alliance executive, I was tasked with developing and managing the overall global alliance with this multinational.
In 2010 I started out on my own, guiding clients in the art and science of creating successful alliances & partnerships. In the past 15+ years I’ve seen alliances & partnerships blossom and fail. The root cause for either success or failure is often comparable among all kinds of companies, large or small.
